Been out of the VW scene for a few years, but hoping to get back into another Mk2 Golf this year.
Any suggestions for wheel sizes without power steering?
The car I'm hoping to buy has an ABF from a Seat fitted.
    G60 Corrado front callipers.
Would really like some 17" alloys, but I'm not sure about clearance of the brakes or arch rub.
Not to mention how hard on the arms it would be to drive.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

17s are pretty huge on a mk2 tbh.
G60 steels are 15, as are BBS RA , and they'll clear g60 brakes, with little to no issues, if you have the proper pads.

Re arch rub, unless its a very skinny tire, you'll have to do some clearancing for 17s.

The width of the tire would have as much of a bearing on the effort, I've driven 8v cars with 185 60 14s, no PAS , and I wouldn't like the steering any heavier, while parking.

Also the manual rack is a slower geared one than the PAS, iirc.

    Thanks!
I'll be looking into 15s then.
Maybe something like Ronal LS etc.?

As Tristan says, 15s no issues.... 17s will give you a world of problems
