Can anyone recommend any more suitable track wheels for a Mk1 that are lightweight and easy to get hold of? I was thinking of going for MOs, but while they are strong track wheels, they arent very light. The 15x7" wheels are supposedly about 8.5kg each. The OZ Ultraleggera is 4.99kg for a 15x7" wheel. So a better choice in my opinion and doesnt look too out of place on a Mk1 track car. I currenly have some other track wheels, which are a twin spoke design, but on the bathroom scales they are 7.1kg each, so not that light. The cut slicks are currently fitted to BBS RAs and there is no way i want to wreck them or try anc clean them after track days.
There was a site that some posted on here that had loads of wheels and their weights. Might be worth doing a quick search for it. But if I remember correctly the Ultraleggera's were pretty much the lightest available. A few off the top of my head that I know are quite lightweight. ATS DTC Team Dynamic Pro Race There are also a few made by Rota that are pretty light. Alternatively, you could search on Ebay for old motorsport wheels. I managed to find my Comp THs which are magnesium alloy pretty cheap, only weigh 5kg each which isn't bad for a strong 15" wheel. I have seen a few Dymag wheels come up every now and then, they are pretty light wheels.
Compomotive TH in 15x7" are supposedly 8.3kg according to this site: http://www.miata.net/faq/wheel_weights.html
Out of experience I can recommend Rota wheels available from http://www.rarerims.co.uk/ I had a set of Circuit 10's on my old CRX fastroad/track car and they were great! Very, very light, well made and a bargain for the price! I arranged a group buy through CRX-UK and they were a great company to deal with. A set will be going on my mk1 trackbeast when the funds allow Now I think about it, I could be persuaded to organise another GB through here if there's enough interest....
Not bad, they weigh supposedly 6.9kg each, but thats still nearly 2kg per corner more than the ultraleggeras, hmm although just checked on that site and it has them listed as 5.1kg. Rota rims also have quite a high offset, ET40-45.
Yes unfortunately they're aimed mainly at the Honda crew... (in fact most of the designs are based on expensive JDM aftermarket wheels). I supose it depends whether you want to correct by 10mm or more. If already running spacers one ET35's, then correcting an ET45 wheel could be a bit of a PITA.

www.wheelweights.net I run Superleggeras because they are light. I still don't understand the fascination with Compomotive wheels for track days, they are so heavy. TD Pro Race 1.2 are also pretty light.
