I've had to get my gearbox rebuilt and need to replace the rear main oil seal and the old clutch before I install the fresh gearbox. The trouble I'm having is getting hold of the required "triple square" socket to allow me to remove the the pressure plate bolts. I managed to get a spline bit set that allowed me to remove the inner CV bolts for the driveshafts but I'm stumped as to where to source triple square sockets. If any of you fine ClubGTI forum members could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. ☺️
Ah the infamous 9 (?) mm. Believe it or not, 12 point sockets were actually the norm, it's only in the last 15 years or so 6 point ones became much more common. Try searching for them as 12 point, not Triple Square. https://www.screwfix.ie/p/magnusson-3-8-drive-socket-rail-15-pcs/229fg
A deep 9mm 12-point is ideal if they are the M7 screws I'm thinking of. The deepness helps with clearance. 3/8" Drive Deep Socket 9mm 12 Point 64mm in height. BOXO SK3122-09L | eBay
