well the origional ones would be i would have thought! alot of people use the rear strut brace which isnt a great idea, if you afix them to a welded in roll cage then i doubt you can get much safer, tim
Mine are bolted into original points for three of them. 1 x sholder strap onto rear seatbelt clasp point towards the centre or rear bench. 1 x sholder strap onto driver's side rear bottom seatbelt point by the inner wing. 1 x lap belt onto driver's side bottom seatbelt bolt point. 1 x lap belt onto a drilled hole in the centre of the exhaust tunnel behind the hand brake. Has a 6mm plate under the tunnel for strength. All points secured with screw in eyelets. Bought eyelets and plate from Speedshack in West Drayton Middx.
Mounting them to the rear seat belt points isn't ideal. The smaller the angle between the point at which the belts attached and the seat back the better. Also the the belt should be attached as close to the seat as possible. So having the belts attached to a welded in cage with a mounting bar directly behind the seats is perfect. With the angle between the seat vertical and attachment being within 10 degrees. Sean
Mine are mounted with the shoulder straps to the rear seat belt mounting points, one towards the outside of the car, one towards the middle, and the lap straps to the front seat belt mounting point on the sill, and the inner one to the subframe of the seat. 4 totally unrelated mounting points, doubt they are all going to fail at once.
] That`s where mine are mounted as well, but if it`s a bad crash and the seat back fails it won`t be pretty (broken spine?).
For competition, the MSA blue book specifies a maximum angle of the belts coming from the top holes in the seat. If it's too high (like to the old rear seat belt mounts) then as KeithMac says, you put extra pressure on the back of the seat. I think the spec is up to 15 from horizontal maybe. Joe
