I'm after a couple of spray cans to touch up a couple of areas of rust I've cleaned up, but my local Halfords doesn't do the shade I'm after. Do VW sell spray cans, or can anyone else recommend anywhere else? This is the colour I need, not sure of the name for it.
try rust.co.uk, their paint is expensive but very good quality. they will do an exact code match, or if you send a sample they will match that too.
Halfords can mix it while u wait, it's alot better quality than the stuff u get off the shef. Just make sure u have the paint code and if they can't find it rember you ignore the L prefix.
I've had some mixed up at halfords, the shade was slightly off and it was very thin, I recommend going to your local paint supplier and getting them to mix it and put it in a tin for you.
A local paint supplier will mix a rattle can - but if it's a metallic you'll probably need two, basecoat and laquer. VW do rattle cans as well but will have to order in. Halford don't do my colour either so clearly we have 'special' colours Barkstar
VW do it - at about 15 a wee can or something. Colour is spot on, and it's good paint though. Unless you're after a metallic or something - in which case take off the petrol cap flap and bring it down to the paint shop for them to match it from. One of my old oak green valvers had to be touched up - they had about 6 different oak greens.......
I'll give VW a try. How small are the cans? I need to do four patches of rust about 30mm square each. Also, could anybody tell the name of the paint. It's paint code is LC5P, it's a kind of grey metallic with a purple hint ot it.
Paint comes in a 150ml spray can. I recently bought a pack of Oak Green and as mentioned it came with a 150ml colour can and a 150ml can of lacquer for 11.52 (inc VAT.)
I had some Atlas Grey mixed up at Halfords since it wasn't on the shelf. Think it was about 8 quid for a spray can. Watched them back it and Atlas Grey has quite a bit of blue in it and a little bit of bright pink!
Where are you based, theres a place very local to me who will mix it up for you and theyre a distributor too so most motor factors sell thier stuff as they specialise in automotive paint.
Wouldnt recommend Halfords, the mix is spot on but the nozzles on the cans they use are different from the standard cans, and are totally useless, and the paint is too thin. VW or another reputable source your best bet
Have a look here:- VW colour chips Just noticed yours is mk3, just change the year. That page is for 1991 colours.
Cheers mate The colour is Dusty Mauve Pearl, sounds expensive and probably a bugger to get a decent finish/match.
Interesting site! It doesn't however list Oak Green Metallic - I had the same problem when I needed to get some paint quickly (ie. before VW could get it in.) I went around a few places and it (Oak Green) wasn't listed in any of the paint chip folders or on their computers. (I just checked through all the Mk2 production years and it doesn't come up.)
