Neil I'm no expert in cameras but I remember years ago reading a guide similar to the below regarding what megapixels are required: http://cameras.about.com/od/photoprintingtips/a/resolution_tabl.htm So for standard 4x6 photos in good quality you need no more than 4mp. This aside though most modern cameras seem to be 8+ however my Olympus 3.2MP produced some outstanding photos in its day. I'd always stick to the known brands such as Canon, Olympus, Fujifilm, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic. My mum had an amazing Canon Ixus 60 (6mp) which was so simple to use and gave an awesome picture until my sister dropped it in water!! Fujifilm always have good deals on their site, we bought a refurbed camera from them some time ago. For me at the moment I'm using my Sony Satio mobile 12mp but as you say it lacks zoom but this produces some amazing photos. If I were in the market for a phone now I would buy this Fuji: https://secure.fujifilm.co.uk/shop/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/d-slr-long-zoom/finepix-s1500 12 optical zoom, sub 100 and with 12mth warranty
thanks for that gareth,i read up on the pixel thing in a camera buying guide and it said i need 10mp at least for the A4 pics i hope to print,i dear say there are other guides around with slightly different info but as you say the cameras nowerdays all seem over 8mp,for my close ups i always used a 1.3mp sharp gx20 phone, many years old but does the job but the pics on the p.c are only small that one in the link is too much for me,i set my budget way less than that,i did go along with the cannon guys when ordering my camera, but much to my disappointment all gone,as was the kodak, and the samsung so at the moment im back to square one,but still putting the pennies away so who knows maybe leave it a few months and have more to cash to play with
thats what i have. little blinder tbh. im a newbie with cameras still but it has enough adjustability to let you have a play and some of the images do some out well (definately user error)
fuji s1500. the pic of the rallye at the end was taken in almost pitch black darkness (8s exposure) and i did something with the appature too
im selling a samsung nv24 in your price range. boxed in as good as new condition. does hd video amarol screen 10 milion pixel spare batteries etc etc

just had a look at the spec ,looks pretty good, looking at the macro spec its saying 10 to 70cm,i really wanted to get closer ,just wondered if you could take a few macro shots and post them up for me?
well thank you all for your help,i finally have a camera,i took a lot of time to think about which one i want and ended up getting the kodak CD90 ive taken a few pics with it already, some terrible some not so bad,i just need to read the instructions carefully and learn how to use it,heres a few i took, the 1st one of my dog, contrasting colours ,looked great when played back but not so good downloaded to much emphasis on the sofa and not enough on the dog,and slightly blured so that needs working on then i really challenged myself and tried to get a pic of the moon through a telescope will be practicing from now on so theres a chance ill be posting again in a new thread thanks again peeps
