Im putting a 2E bottom end into my Mk2 with a PP PB head, i was just wondering is it ok to use the original 1.8 8v gearbox or should i use the 2.0 one?

Also if anyone knows of any 2E bottom ends anywhere let me know as im finding it a problem in obtaining one with low mileage!!

    cheers everyone..

Original box is best. Look for an automatic Passat with a 2E if you can, they don't get the balls beaten off them.......

Original to your car. A manual 2E box will likely be a cable change one.

I use a 8v GTI box with my 2L, works fine :) I did have have a diff bolt launch itself through the case but it was a high mileage box that had been abused at Santa Pod [:$]

Make sre you sort out the clutch while the box is off...

A 2L makes short work of a standard 8v clutch...

Use a Sachs 8v friction disc with a Sachs O.E 16v (9A or KR) Pressure plate (from the main dealer)

This is safe to handle more torque & 160BHP... ;)

cheers about the clutch thing, i was going to use the standard one. How long do you think you would get out of a normal 8v clutch with the 2L as only a couple of months ago i put a new one in and dont really want to waste it!

In which case all you need is a 16v pressure plate from a 9A 2L 16v ideally or a KR 1800 16v (as is mine)

These are available from the main dealers for circa 50...

If you want a TSR 203 cam send me a PM...I may know of one going spare.. ;)
