i have an 8v gti and the box is starting to crunch when going into 2nd [:^(]! Whats the best way to go 1, get it fixed! 2, get a new one, ooooh the cost! 3, get a different box all together, will a golf diesel box fit? if so will it be faster / slower?
They all do that after a while. Change the oil to Redline MTL and that should cure it for a good while, especially if it's only just started.
I wouldn't even consider a rebuild for a simple second gear grind. Have those cars were doing that within 50k of new, and are still on the same box at well over 100k. Try changing the oil first!
Although a complete rebuild will get you a box with a full set of new bearings,seals, new synchros and new diff bolts. Tubs may recommend someone if you PM him.
he certainly did recommend some one! I want to get it fixed its p****** me off! I cant change it quickly when racing off the lights ( without lots of crunching [:^(] ) and whipping all the bad boy novas!!
