I've heard so much about standalone ECU's and still don't know which one is the best out there to use with the sensors the 1.8T has from factory.

I would like to upgrade my injection, since it's pretty much old school.
It's the one from the drive by cable engines (AGU).

I've been told the Challenger 4+ is one of the best around, and can work with all the engine sensors(knock, etc).

Please let me know which ones I can get, for what price, and how to get them(postage to Portugal is mandatory).

    Thanks!

I don't think there is 'a best', I'm using DTA at the moment, but it's the older EXP model so doesn't have the functionality of the newer models, Possibly thinking of using OMEX in future which includes knock control.

Why do you need to upgrade the ECU?

Badger5 on here used the standard ECU up to about 500bhp before needing to change.

But I believe (and am almost certain) that he is running on one of the latest Motronic ECU's.
His car is a 180hp and DBW (if I stand corrected) and this is flashable through the OBD. Mine is not, and it will not handle big injectors or anything.

I'm running 315bhp with AGU and larger injectors. Indeed you can't flash via the OBDII port but you can flash it directly via kwp2000 interface, which most tuning shops know about and have.

Whow, give me some more details on this.
So I don't need to unsolder, and re-solder everytime I want to remap the ECU?
    How can I do this?

    My build thread --> http://seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=150703

My ECU has been mapped at both Jabbasport and JBS in the past. Tuner's will remove the casing of the ECU and replace the main chip that holds the map with their own that can be reprogrammed. Once this is done, they just have to plug the software into the ecu and change settings as required.

Email some UK tuners like the ones above for more detail on the actual process.

JUst went through the build thread. Nice going :p

I know that my ECU has been changed, but not sure how, and not sure if it can be changed using the KWP2000...

I'm looking at VEMS, Versatile Engine Management System.
Got support for WB and EGT and isn't terribly expensive, and uses all the stock sensors except for the MAF....

    How much is that?
So, you can wire it up to use the knock sensors, etc. Good.
