Some units differ but I think:

Red - 12v Ignition or Permanent 12v depending on h/u.

Blue - Elec Aerial or Remote On lead.

    Black - Earth.

its a really old headunit, so i doubt it had a phone mute, and it doesnt have a remote,

also the headunit doesnt turn on with the ignition, you have to do it manually,

so i presume there isnt an ignition wire, should i ignore the blue, and put the red and yellow from the HU in to one ? thne use the black as ground,

The blue is probably an elec aerial lead. Most h/u`s have one, even old ones.

Also I meant remote on as in remote on for an Amp etc.

The Mk2 didnt come with a sw 12v as standard. Thats what the other power lead is for. You can wire one in easily enough though.

Yes it does, it's the switched live that you don't get as standard. Wiring the yellow and red together should work perfectly fine.

Just ignore the blue one, it'll be the electric aerial lead as mentioned.

i know you meant remote turn on for an amp but as the old HU doesnt have any out puts then it isnt a remote,

if i wire yellow and red together i will keep the memory, as at the mo it has a constant 12v live, it doesnt have a ignition turn on, so it will have to be manually turned on,

the car doesnt have a elec areal or any thing, but the blue wire is still wires up,

so what you recon it is?

    tim,
