.....the diff pin is knackered, so I've been told. My mechanic is giving it someone else to sort (been told between 200-300 but I'll find out when its been done.-does that sound right?) It's having a new clutch+ box mount but is there anything else worth replacing while it's in bits? the box has done 160k but its the best I've had in a mk2, very smooth + no crunches at all. Could just do with the bushes in the linages being done. was gonna replace the oil with redline mtl (is that the right stuff? cheers!
You might as wel have a proper refurb at that price. That will prob include changing the syncromesh, especially the one for 2nd gear is the main weakness
I got my MTL from this geezer. I agree with Rusty, i've seen recon boxes for 300 from Big boys toys or is it Volksspares. MTL
cheers for the replies, and thanks for the link Paul. I'll have to ring a few places and see how much a rebuild will cost - I thought it'd be nearer 600. no-ones websites mention gearboxes!
don't forget you'll need 2 bottles of the MTL for the gearbox as for recons speak to hotgolf(on here)
