hi, i have a mk1 gti1.8 g/box and a 2.0 ltr 8v mk3 g/box. i also have a white and a red speedo drive and i have got them muddled up. you know what im asking. thank you.

Mk3 have an electronic speedo drive. Different to MK2 and MK1 cable systems with separate gears. The red one is what is used in the MK1 1.5-1.8 part no is 171957821B and should have 15 teeth. The white one is 171957821A is used in the 1.5-1.7. it has 16 teeth.
thanks for the replies chaps. i thought it was the 16v g/box that had the electronic speedo and not the 8 valve. the box was sold to me as a mk3 8v and it does run with a speedo cable as ive used it.
all mk3s have anelectronic speedo sensor, but the MK3 8v gearbox itself is an 020 box the same as a large block MK1 & MK2. This means you can still run it with a cable speedo, it fits right in.
