wierd oil recommendation

    If an oil's too thin for an engine that's worn, you can sometimes hear the big ends knocking for the first few secs in cold weather, even after the oil's got round. If this is the case you will hear a big difference between sinta gold, silver and 20w50. I didn't realise i had a problem 'till i put gold in my old engine, but the combination of quite tappets and much pronounced big end knock alerted me to something that was there all the time with silver, but not loud enough to draw my attention to it.     should be a laugh... gotta run up to vw to get a rocker cover gasket, when i get back it'll be warm and ill get it on the ramps

    sounds like going for a thinner oil with an 'old' engine (ie 155k miles) is very telling. we'll see how worn mine really is
