fit the same linkage kit and inlet manifold as webers?

I bought everything i needed to put webers on the golf then sold the carbs, as i was short on cash, but am now looking to buy another pair of 40s, either dellorto or weber depending on what good ebay deals i see.

At the moment i have everything i needed to fit the webers, will these bits fit dellortos?

Also, after reading peoples info about dellortos they say they are better, in such areas as setting up and availability of parts. This true?

    Cheers.

Dellortos are easier to get from old alfa and lancia twin cams (and some fiats)

Jets and chokes are harder to come by, I believe, and more expensive.

I've heard it said that dellortos are (marginally) better carbs, but you'll get more gain if you can get the right jets and chokes to set them up properly, so stick with whatever your friendly neighbourhood rolling road can get spares for.

jets and chokes for dellortos are fantastically easy to get hold of

    you order them, they arrive.

    there are two main differences between dellorto and weber carbs;

dellorto jets go up in 1's, webers in 5's - so with dellortos you can fine tune much better

weber cold start circuit is unreliable, and can be prone to jamming and causing serious running problems (and sometimes buggered engine) - dellortos don't

(neither car needs cold running circuit anyway - pump the pedal twice and the pump jet will sort it out)

Then times have changed...I stand corrected. Give the man an address to get them from then [:D]

Just pump the pedal a couple of times to start them from cold...you shouldn't need a choke cos the accelerator pump is big enough to run a cold engine. I've never seen a twin-carb alfa where the choke cable wasn't seized from non-use.

Get the rest of the linkage of the donor car - it shouldn't be rocket science to link a cable to it. Try round some alfa specialists for cheap carbs.

I used to use this bloke for Alfa Bits - was years ago, but he's generally v cheap.

He'll probably know for sure if webers and dellortos fit the same manifolds too...

webers and dellortos do fit the same manifold, and same air filter - but not the same trumpets

i use a guy called tjmotorsport for my dellorto jets and chokes

(funny feeling of deja vu about the pumping the pedal twice thing....) ;)

ar they to go on an 8v or 16v, i wouldent put dellortos on a 16v as you have to make a new water pipe, due to the way the linkage comes out

Cheers for all the help, will start looking for a pair as soon as i have a couple more wage packets i can blow on the car .

Its an 8v DX, so isnt crossflow, but will give a much needed power increase Currently it has a fast road cam and vernier, magnex, large throttle body and a small amount of head porting, so i am fast running out of ways to tune it without spending loads and getting new larger valves put in. And at least i can think about that and 2l block in the future.

Now i need to try and make some kind of cold air scoop from underneith the car to the inlets. I think my engine bay may become filled with drain pipe
