1999/T MK4 gti 20vt AGU 97k, just fully serviced, all belts, all sensors and water pump replaced, no sign of engine wear (emissions are very good) doesnt use any oil ect, runs like new. Ive now collected all the parts to gain well over 300bhp from it, however im deliberatly having it limited to 300bhp to reduce the risk of blowing it up. do you think i'll still blow it up without upgrading the bottom end?
nick, you wana pm Bill really - he's had a garrett blower on a mk4 before. If anyones likely to know, he prob will.
no the bottem end should be good for around 350BHP, well the yanks seem to run the engines at that power with no problems
this is a bit of a mixed reaction, i guess its a case of maybe it will maybe it wont, Bill has been advising me on this from the start and has said any weak points will make themselves known. i just wanted some other opinions, or see if anyone else had had any problems Lets hope i dont have any weak points
The bottom end will be fine mate its the top end you need to worry about, bent and snapped valves and gaskets. I have seen a 1.8T head where all the cam caps had snapped in half, proper bang!!! As long as you dont kick the bottom out of the engine it should be pucka.
Vince showed me some 1.8T rods when i was at Stealth that were from a standard engine that decided to banana themselves. Should have taken a pic.
prob a wise move nick. Of course a good idea, which im sure youve already done, is to see what people are saying on ukmkivs and, as andyg says, vortex.
