if i put a 10v turbo, or a 2.2 turbo audi engine in my light weight bmw 2002? when the boost kicks in will i end up in the hedge? just batting round ideas at the moment
my father who obvious;y is king of knowlege, reckons i need torque but im sure due to the 2002 being mainly fibreglass and very light putting the powerdown would be a nightmare, id spend a fortune on tyres. The 2.2 20v audi engine has a fair amount of torque and is probably the same weight as a bmw v8, the boost kicks in at low rpm and come in gradually, so i was thinking this is a better option, ive not had chance to drive a 10v turbo as used in the audi ur quattro turbo, can someone tell me what they perform like? Power figures standard boost ect? With the bmw being rear wheel drive it could be fairly hairy
More the burying it into a hedge part. Cant beat entertainment. Why not just sell it and buy a UR Quattro Nick??
Yes sounds like a good idea... buy a quattro Standard 10v turbo 200bhp at 5500rpm max torque 210lb/ft at 3500 rpm Early ur quattro Standard 20v turbo 220 bhp at 6500rpm max torque is 282lb/ft at 4500rpm The handling is awesome monster turbo lag and a whallop as it kicks in. I love mine to bits...
The 02 is an uber rare one, its one of the origional alpina race cars, mostly fibre glass panels (see pic below) my father raced it before i was born, its been in the family since the early 1980's, it was stipped down and re-built so many times its amazing, i have fond memories, being 5 years old sat in the drivers seat in the paddock at combe with a helmet on far too big for me going vrooooooom...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.............urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr then fighting over the steering wheel with my bro My father gave it to me as my 21'st birthday present, which ment alot, she is now a bare rolling shell, still has uber rare probably the only set of proper m3 calipers taken from the m3 rally car!!! on it along with some phat wide wheels (think it runs 10x 15's rear 9x15's fronts) with its origional slicks on. the plan is to work on it with him and get her back on the road, hence the engine questions. An audi ur would be nice but ive got too much invested in the business atm and the 02 needs to be done so i can use it as a promo car for my business (thats my excuse anyway)
tbh I would stick with the Bmw theme and look at the possibility of a race tuned straight six Mtec My father has always had BMWs since I was born and my favourite was the M5 285bhp and light as a feather on the back end, which is wy he kept a bag of cement in the boot to give it grip in the winter. It was a fantastic car and I am still toying with owning one. Not sure if the gearbox would throw me though. good luck with it.. If you get a chance to drive a quattro, do they are fantastic and put the power down like a car with twice the ponies.
I was at a BMW meet yesterday, and there was a dude with a car very similar to yours, running an s14 e30 m3 evo engine. It was dyno'd at 246bhp and weighs in at 940kg. Its running e30m3 gearbox and a 2002 3.64 LSD it also has a full "touring car" dash with huge rev-counter and digital speedo etc. some pics to whet your appetite..
Didn't BMW actually make a 2002 turbo, which turned out to be an undriveable monster that most owners crashed fairly quickly?
yeah the 2002 turbo was a bit of a monster-mainly the huuuge turbo lag that caught owners out! 170bhp in a 1000kg car was super fast in the 70's
