Will it rub ? (Or is it possible!?!)

    Fitting 17" alloys with 225/45R17 91W, and lowered 50mm is this possible on a mk3 GTI ?

    i think my mate had similar size/lowered etcand it was ok, slight scrappin but roll arches and was fine!said it handled not bad too on them

    Personally I would change the tyres to 205/40s myself

    Hi Rob, I think those tyres will probably rub. The other thing is that the rolling radius will be out by ~6.5% so your speedo will overread by that much too.

    As craggsy says, 205/40/17 are the correct size for 17s on the mk3.

    Will more than likely rub yes.

    I have 17's on mine with 205/40's with a 35-40mm drop and the rears catch when weight is in the back and going over speed bumps sometimes. So a 50mm drop and 225/40 will probably catch a lot more unless you roll the arches.

    As garfayliu pointed out you would want to be going down 205/40 to keep the rolling radius as close to normal as possible also.

    it all depends how wide your alloys are.i have 8x17's,and i will be installing a 40mm lowering kit,and there will still be clearance.forgot to mention i have fitted 205/ 40 profile tyres for that stretched look.really good look,but have to watch out for potholes!!!
