Need to replace my inner and outer CV's on my '88 mk2 with 020 gearbox. However, according VW they are obsolete with no replacement!! Surely not?

Will early mk3 CVs fit (inner & outer). Or are there other models with 100mm output flanges?

Original VW parts may be obsolete, but I did this job last year with GSF pattern parts 30-50 + VAT according to their website. No need to faff around with other models...

For inners, use 4-stud Mk3 or Passat (87-95) or Corrado. For outers, same: just avoid the GTI / VR6 outers - they have different splines.

Any 100mm CV will work. And your '88 has the 100mm and not the 90mm? Where are you located? 2.0 MK3's should all be 100mm.

Edit: Actually, are the MK3's a little bit longer? Just now thought of that.

MK3 4 and 5 stud inner cvs are the same as above, outers need to use mk3 4 stud. passat 4stud may also work as above but I'm not 100% sure.

the actual joints are the same, its just the boots that differ on mk3/passat

No, the shafts are different lengths, hence the wider track. This is based on a mk2 and mk3 both having 100mm inner cv joints.

Anyone used GSFs GKN inner & outer mk2 CVs? I know the cheap Q-Drive are as much use as Stevie Wonders sunglasses, but both the parts guy at the dealer and the chap at GSF highly recommended the GSF GKNs. Not cheap though & would prefer OE parts.

    Just to clarify;

    Inner CV
    - Will any year Mk3 golf inner CV fit? Which model/engine size (i.e GTi, CL etc etc) if there is a difference?
    - Passat 87-95 inner CVs fit. Again, which model/engine size if there is a difference?
    - Any corrado inner CVs fit regardless of engine size

    Outer CVs
    - 4 stud mk3 (what years/models were 4 stud?)

Most importantly, which of the above are still available from VW?

    MK3 1.8-2.0 8v and 16v, VR6 and 1.9 TD/TDI (not D, they use 90mm)
Any Passat I think, maybe some of the poverty specs were 90mm
    Any Corrado

    outer
4stud mk2/3/corrado/passat with 100mm inner cvs as above
