Probably been asked before, probably an obvious answer but I don't have a 1.8 to compere notes nor can I find a straight answer from Google.

Ok so my head will fit after contacting the engine shop and what not (need to rebuild the cylinder head but have done other cylinder head builds before with no problem). Now Iv been told by my vw friends that there's only 2 gear boxes for the standard engines (I.e not like a g60 or gti etc) but I don't really know so will my gearbox from my 1.6 fit the 1.8 if not which do I need. I have never had a problem with mine and after the last not the mechanic said he'd never seen a mk2 with a better gearbox so I'd be enclined to keep it however the clutch could do with changing.
