I've got an old Alpine 3522S amp (2ch, 2x30 RMS) and i was wondering if it would be ok to run my Infinity 6500cs (270W) components of it

Im asking because i heard that if you run powerfull speakers of a small amp it kill them and always try to match the amp with the speakers i.e my comps are 90W RMS and the amp is 30W RMS.

    Cheers

not ideal but better than nothing, you are better off giving them some headway, im putting 120wrms through my 80wrms comps,

    Cheers mbh69 :)

I've read a lot of your posts and you sure know what you're on about, so question time!

    1. What's this clipping lark?
    2. How do i prevent it?

    Nice one

clipping is to put it simple distortion this can be caused by all sorts if you scope the outputs from an amp playing a frequency it should give nice smooth curves but when it's clipping your getting a flat spot across the top of the curve this causes heat and eventially kills the coils
basically to stop it you can have them set up with a scope but with most speakers you can hear the distortion but with subs u can't so most people only scope sub amps
to prevent be carefull with the volume and settings of the amp / headunit

if the headunit clips the amp will clip
but even if the headunit isn't clipping too puch gain on the amp will cause clipping as well
