So yesterday as I was driving to work my drivers wiper decided it didn’t want to stay in place and ended up about half way up the sweep pattern and almost hitting the passenger wiper. I pulled into a lay-by to adjust it but I’m wondering if there’s a way to fix this as I don’t think I can tighten it down anymore

I had this problem on a different car but the problem was the wiper blade splines were worn. This allowed the blade to stick to the window and slip. New wiper blade arm fixed the issue. A word of caution don't delay fixing as it could wear the wiper drive as well.

My passat blade decided to have a mind of it's own. The arm was was split where it joined the arm, so no amount of tightening helped. Good luck

had this on my mk1 cab, all I had to do was remove both arms and use a pick tool to dig out all the loose metal from the spline on the car, then give the arms a quick scrape out to emove any loose material.

there are 2 spline sizes for mk2 wiper arms they changed in 1989ish, so thats also worth a look
