Audi is proud to present a world first the first twelve-cylinder diesel engine in a series passenger car. This six-litre V12 makes its debut in the Audi Q7. It produces a colossal 500 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque. With this engine Audi has opened a new chapter in diesel history.

The V12 TDI is reminiscent of the engine featured in the new R10 Le Mans racing car it catapults the driving performance of the Audi Q7 into the echelons of top-class sports cars. The car sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds, and has an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h. Maximum torque is available from just 1,750 rpm. The high-tech diesel engine, with the worlds first 2,000 bar Bosch Common Rail system, provides the high-performance Audi SUV with superior power reserves in any situation. The impressive sound of the new Audi is provided by the ultra-modern piezo-injection system. The V12 TDI transmits this power through a new six-speed tiptronic gearbox to the quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.

id be intrested to see vids, wonder what it sounds like?? Diesel power is becoming so advanced these days, but for me its kind of lost the point....its cheaper to run a petrol car than a diesel now, especially with prices rising and servicing, even insurance is more expensive.

guess the bonus of low down tourque is there, but thats pretty pointless in anything 2wd.......although id love to see a rwd diesel in action

The Q7 has its place like all 4x4s, but the threads about diesel technology, not 4x4s!

Yes the A380F has a ranp weight of 592 tonnes (A380 passenger is 562), but its empty weight is about 250 tonnes.

I am willing to bet that the Touareg pulled an empty 747. AN empty 747-400 weights 183 tonnes. Still quite an achievement though

    Interesting developments.

I wonder about how economical it will be, and if like all oil burners it will start to sound like a transit van after 3 years?

well, if the engine is related in any way at all to the one powering the audi r10s, then it won`t have even the merest hint of smoke out of the exhaust ( i`m serious, i was at le mans last year and the audi was clean as a whistle, no smoke whatsoever), will be totally silent when next to a regular petrol, and whup almost every other car it comes up against....

Yep, can feel another publicity stunt coming on. I thought VW acted a bit nerdy with that stunt though, they lowered the ratio of 1st gear in the toureg that pulled the jumbo. completely ruined it for me.
