can someone please help by giving me basic tuning setup figures for the setup Ive got? its incredible but just had it confirmed that out here in vienna its near impossible to find serious petrol motor tuners as most work with diesel.. have to go to germany which is 350 miles too many on pinking engine as signature shows, lump is 2.1 - head is well modded and fast tsr cam I would need to know appropriate timing setting at TDC for starters and any further procedure info much appreciated. wish I could do it myself but cant and wont risk it with such a valuable lump! have so far raised co2 to 4.5% but still pinks to beggary. How to retard ignition?? Edited by: andrew
Buy a timing lamp and learn how to use it, unless you want to be driving 350 miles every time you want a tune-up.
Have you spoke to TSR for info? EDIT: ask for Adrian or Tom as they are the K-star tuning specialists there Edited by: fthaimike
a help thanks.. makes sense I found that the distributor counter-weights had seized... rotor arm shaft now oiled and freed up and the pinking has reduced dramatically... to eliminate I turned the dizzy assembly a little to the right to retard and pinking now gone. It would of course be useful to know which basic figures should apply to setting up the timing... as I now understand timing should be 6 BTDC at idle, 38 at 3500 rpm with CO2 4.5% - pls correct if wrong, its just that I read threads talking of 9 and 10 but has that perhaps to do with a more superior fuelling system? knowing sod all Im not too shy to ask , if the idle speed is too high do I find the adjuster back of throttle body / inlet manifold. Scuse basic question, thanks again for any help, always appreciated. Must get a Haynes manual
thanks fthaimike, did that and adrian confirmed above. Is your 2.1 a tall block 2E or standard height? Asking coz I see youve a stabiliser strut above (sorry guys prob wrong section this) and was just wondering if its poss to fit strut above tall block.. 16mm taller than standard. I usually ask the same questions evry 6 months or so but short-term mem a bit shot Edited by: andrew
