had a thread up here before and was suggested that carb icing could be the prob... tonight I accelerated (nothing spectacular), it backfired a few times , then died, wouldnt start again, left it for 5 minutes and it started, but wouldnt idle and then cut out again....tried bump starting as I was getting towed home, it started and immediately cut out could this all be down to carb icing ?
cheers pal, will do I'll just add that on 2 other occasions it did this...once on the motorway (started again after 5 mins) and once in the carpark where it was running for maybe 20 secs, I stopped it to check the oil or something and then it wouldnt start again for 5 mins will check this gasket tommorow in the daylight though
ye shouldnt get carb icing, it hardly ever happens, specialy after 20 secs in a car park just hold the aribox/carb and wobble it from side to side, if its got lots of play get a new gasket rubber. my last golf did it, was a right pain. all sorted after i replaced the part.
there IS loads of play if you push / pull the airbox, like can actually see it go up n down, always thought it was just the airbox will check tommorow, think you cracked it already though
unfortunately it turned out to be ignition related...still trying to solve it wish it WAS only a f**kin seal [:^(]
