i ordered a set of 288 deg cams from a respected dealer who had them ground for me by a respected performance cam provider and after 4 days i received my cams, when fitting them i noticed some fairly major pitting which looks to me as though they have not cleaned up when ground. this damage was on more than one lobe but i took a picture of the worst one. would any body concider them suitable for use?
Bet i know what make cams they are as mine were exactly the same and i had two sets, even when brand new(not regrinds) they were the same I found they are fine to use and pitting never got any worse Pm me if you want to know what make cams i am talking about
i sent mine back and after much hassle eventualy got a good pair,i have to say that the other two parties involved were far from helpfull. is this the true quality of the work we spend our hard earned cash on?
Two words... no chance ! Thats like buying a set of pistons with detonation marks in the top.. because it'll be ok, they may go like that anyway! Glad to here you got a good pair eventually.
so its not just me they then, this is the true quality of their work and some of you guys allready seem to know this[:^(] i was told that they realy know their stuff and i couldnt go wrong with them?when i complained i was told by the dealer that it was not a problem and the top guy at newmans had looked at the photos and said it was fine?the dealer allso said that the pitting might even help to carry oil around with the cam and on to the lifter which was good it took me 4 days to get my 1st set but after i sent the 1st set back it took 6 weeks to get my replacments back will not deal with them again EVER
no sorry to say it is all true,i have not mentioned the name of the dealer as i think while he was lazy and unhelpfull he did mostly try to help
If you are talking about phillip, he has helped me get replacement cams as mine turned out to be wrong duration Found him very helpfull That set and even the other replacement set had exactly same pitting marks on same lobes and all which i'v put down to casting marks Only on the edges tho which when you look at standeard cams are ground away anyway so contact area with lifter is allot narrower, if you get what i mean after running first set of cams for few th miles they never changed in apearance so i thought all newman cams had same pitting markes like that
I've never used the alleged above suppliers so I cant comment. But always had good results with Kent & Piper. I've also just used some springs and caps from CatCams.. exellent quality and fast delivery from the UK supplier. I'm told the Cat-Cams cams are very good too from those that are using them.
as far as i am concerned now mate you cant do worse that the ones i had so try any of the above as i am sure they will be better,i had a set of schricks and i know they cost double but after seeing them side by side they are worth every penny extra, when i go solid lifters later in the year i think that is what i will do
I have a newmans in my mk1, it was fine.... when i ordered they took their time a bit I hassled the dealer and he made them get a move on, when it arived they had sent a phase1 not a phase 2!!! so i phoned and shouted and they sent me a new one next day so it arrived on Sat!! and told me just to send the other back.. but i have read a few other people suprised I used them..
