just done a head gasket change on a 91 gti 8v. started her up and she is smoking a lot around the engine. some of this is probably due to all the plus gas and oil the engine has been covered in but i can also smell rubber. any ideas why the rubber smell?? i know it might be a hose or wire touching some hot metal but i cant look for this until it cools down and was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what could be causing the rubber smell?. my timing seems slightly retarded and the rev counter and mfa dont seem to work, again any ideas?
