Maybe I'm just drunk, (OK, I am drunk), but what is the reason for the valve guides being like this?

I've seen people cut the valve guides down before, but never on one side like that. Is that what has been done? The picture isn't the clearest.

That' head's been ported - I expect you noticed that too, unless you're really drunk. The man in the shed does not cut valve guides down, but some do. Normally it results in huge valve guide wear - maybe ok for a race engine, but not on the road.

The grindstone was probably too big for the hole, and they were too lazy to change the guides.
