New lights will make a difference as well, you could always try cleaning up an old set though but it will be time consuming

an uprated headlamp loom and halfords own extreme brilliance bulbs have transformed my lights! loads better, if the bulbs are on offer (buy 1 get 1 free) the whole upgrade can be done for around the 50 mark and your still all legal ;)

    definately get an uprated loom.

I recommend Osram Nightbreakers - had them 2 winters now, nice bright white colour, not yellow!

I've got some of the better 'white/blue' look bulbs in the Volvo but you can massively notice the reduction in light output to give that colour effect. Given a mk2 has pants lights from stock without an uprated headlight loom, i'd avoid such cool look bulbs.

Start off with an uprated headlight loom first, you should notice difference straightaway. Measure the voltage output before and after an uprated headlight loom is fitted. You could easily gain approx 2 volts here, I did

Uprated looms are definitely worth it although 35 is a lot!! Drzoidberg on here can make you a set for I think 20 or 25 and it's top quality, or you can make one yourself.

I'm getting a pair of Philips X-treme Power soon so I'll see how they compare.

Please, please, please don't get an HID kit.

HID kits are illegal anyways, unless you go to the trouble of making them effective at self levelling. Use and construction.
