I hear a lot of talk of the blue temp sender but ive got a yellow one on my 2E engine.
Is this some kind of universal one? Its got 4 wires.
Engine seems to run a bit rich, i can smell it when its ticking over.
The lambda sensor was working the last time i checked with vagcom, could this be one reason why?
    Cheers

It could be, if you plug VAGCOM in with the engine hot and running and check the live outputs, if the sender is faulty you will find that it's giving erroneous temperature readings. I had this problem with a Polo, the dash reading was normal but the temp reading for the ECU was suggesting it was about 70, hence overfuelling.
