Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

My brother has just passed his test this morning, he hasn't brought a car yet and insurance seems to be really high for new drivers (understandable). My question is does anyone know any decent insurance companies for young new drivers?

He wants a MK3 Polo but TPFT insurance on his own for a 1.0l is around 1800

    Cheers

    Nick

make sure he gets quotes with your mum, dad and you added. do them one at a time to see which bring it down (just incase 1 bumps it up) as this shows it to be a "sensible family car."

also tpft may be a false economy, I always found the difference between fully comp and tpft to be 30-40 ish at most and in some cases it was more expensive than fully comp! (my old broker explained that some companies view it as a sign you dont care about your car and just want to be leagal).

also money supermarket are running some good money off deals at the moment. I tried calling the best couple of insurers from their site direct but they couldn't beet the quotes offered so I broke the habit of a life time and booked via them instead.

1800 is not acually a bad quote, but keep shopping around.

    For a Mk2 GTI maybe...

    But certainly a bit steep for a 15 year old+ Polo with a 1.0l engine... [:s]

Think with HIC you need at least one years no claims and need to be at least 19

Thanks for the replies chaps. When i passed my test nearly 7 years ago i was paying 1000 on a mk4 Escort and my mate was paying just over 2000 for a 1.4 mk3 Golf CL.

He's on mums insurance at the mo and driving around in her year old 1.2 clio which is 50 a month for both of them.

Does anyone know of any places that will let you use your motorbike no claims or don't they allow it anymore? I'm sure years ago you could use bike no claims when insuring a car @ 17. I may be wrong as always tho
