    Oh Dear.... :(

Just did a search of for the very first thread I ever posted.....

    http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?49154-Very-Random-Forum-Question-

(Ok, tell a lie, that's the second one - the first was 'how do I remove the front headrests'...).

How embarrassing, 10 years ago I was a complete forum newbie (of any forum), and I was up night and day obsessing about the 'current active users' name order... :(

Anyway - anyone else brave enough to post there first ever thread ?

    Happy Easter

    I miss the 'ol gal:

Mine was asking for assistance finding a local VW specialist garage incase I needed some work doing after the MOT, back in December 2006.

Turns out I could do it all myself :)

Like you, I look back at my first threads and realise how little I knew then compared to now [:s]

    • Recommendations of a good garage to use near Huddersfield (West Yorks)?
    • What brake disks / pads do you recommend for track use?
    • Hello. Anyone know any details about the golf I`m buying?
    • Front suspension top mount on MK2, with MK3 bits. Help please.
    • Changing cambelt & tensioner on MK3 ABF 16V in MK2 golf

The tone of my future posts was set. Asking for advice and then doing it and documenting what I did to assist others

Ha, as a forum newbie I think my first post was a clumsy attempt to join in a conversation which turned out to be the last post in the thread lol

    Mine was my build thread.

Now 61 pages long, 6years old and has 163,000 views :o

God knows where that time has gone. I was a lurker before that though.

Still easily the best forum IMO.

I was asking about what radiator to use in my mk2 vr6. That would be on the old forum.

My first thread was called, 9a pistons in abf block. It didnt start off too well and was very embarrassing. I basically bought a 9a block with all gaskets etc and new pistons, had the block rebored etc etc, then started to put it together. Piston gudgeon pins didnt fit the rods as they were too small and the pistons sat too low. Turned out the block was an abf one! lol
It was that thread and peoples comments that eventually made me decide to have a go at building my new engine. So something useful came of it, ive learnt alot from this forum along the way and I defo have the correct block this time lol

It was definately a learning curve to say the least! lol
Worked around it in the end, rebushed the rods and decked the block. [:$]
Engine goes pretty well, so will keep it incase I mess this one up.

I was very inactive on here, joined in 2005, first post was in 2007 asking if anyone was doing a track day at Llandow to which had no reply and then 2nd was in 2008 about suspension for track days, again no reply lol

And then an Hello thread in 2010 which got took over by everyone talking about rallying. Can't say it was the best welcome by a forum but I did use this place for research more than anything when I first joined.

I worked out how to do it, you can look them up and get the part numbers. Could order through UK dealers as well but couldn't return parts as obviously non uk stock.

    Haha lol

That was a bugger to remove. I didn't have any power in my lock up at the time, and couldn't drive anywhere as it was in bits. So I tried everything I could, which didn't get me anywhere lol

    Funny looking back :)

    Ditto

    Oct 2003 FTW! [:^:]

I think my first thread on the old forum was asking about wheel offset/fit options for my old Mk2.
