I have a caddy running a 1.8 gti 8v engine on a weber dtlm carb (previous owner)

As its running a carb, the PO just connected a pipe to the breather and let it dangle out the bottom of the bay..

Now the thing is.. the breather pumps out blue smoke like a good un! What could the cause of this smoke be?

Apparantley its got a DIY flowed head and valves were re lapped at the time also.

Doesnt lack power particularly.. Also.. I tired connecting the breather to the air filter and it just causes the engine to splutter and choke..

    Any ideas?

Can you explain what you mean about that and how it would cause the problem above?

What parts would need replacing? of would it be the whole block?

the piston rings and bores maybe worn causing lost compression to blow back through the breather system

if this is the case it would need a rebore/new pistons &rings or second hand engine

Flush, drop and replace the oil and clean out the breather gause filter - 9 out of 10 times it sorts it out.

    Good luck.

I would of thought I would of noticed a lack of power if compression was low..

    Whats ATF?
