Is what the garage may aswell have said to me.

"Hi Jamie, it's David from the garage. Your car is ready to be picked up now"

Me: "Thats great news! So what was wrong with it then?"

him: "Well.. you'll have to tow it back I'm afraid. We have no idea at all why it won't start."

    What a terrible day!

After the nightmare I've already had with the car, I was hoping to get it back working perfectly after finally giving in and taking it to the local garage. They seem to think the co2 mixture screw is actually missing too! He says it's missing from my spare pierburg I have aswell. Could anyone take a photo of the top of their carb with the mixture screw please?

Also, he said there is no (or very little?) pressure going to the inlet manifold i think.

Anyone care to help me out? Pete? :)

And if it is that the mixture screw is missing, where could I find a new one? AND WHERE HAS IT GONE?!

Sorry, a bit of venting some anger/frustration there [8(]

Your CO/Idle mixture adjustment screw is the fella lurking inside the turret that my screwdriver is pointing at:

I've got spare turrets/screws if that really is missing. :o

Can't really imagine how that could go missing unless gravity was having a day off.

From what I worked out the guy at the garage said he thinks their is missing parts not just from the carb but from the actual Vacuum system as well.

May be worth getting a look of someone with the same engine code and carb?

    Thank you [:D] haha

And I've realised what's missing!!! That little L shaped thing!! I'm SURE I've seen one of them in my bag of bits that came with the weber.. But I thought it was just a part off the weber.

Just had a look in the bag but its no there.. hmmm.. time for a hunt.

Well I've just been and fitted that missing part. Those other two screws that you have and I don't.. don't know about them though! I had some screws that looked like they'd be for those holes but when I tried them out they were too small for the hole.

The battery will be charged in the morning so I'll put it all back together and give it a try! What are those other screws I'm missing then?

I don`t know anything about carbs, but comparing your`s and Pete`s pics it seems you are missing all the screws that hold the thing together!! [:[]

^^^ [:D] Haha it seems that way! I do have the three massive screws that go all the way through the carb and into the rubber flange though!

You could be onto something there Stu  .

There should be four screws holding the top half of the carb to the bottom half, additional to the three long ones that go all the way through into the flange. The one nearest the driver's side front should also have an earth wire under it, connected to the engine, so that the electrical choke heater and bypass heater work. [:|]

Not sure how it ran without the mixture adjustment fitting either... Would have been running very lean at idle I'd imagine.

Shall I assemble a repair kit for you? I don't have a (new) spare main gasket unfortunately, which would seem to be a good idea in the circumstances. Your spare carb must have the four screws holding it together? Give me a ring tomorrow ;) .

Dear me! Haha, I just assumed that the carb was held together by those three long screws!

I can't check the spare carb at the moment as it's in my boot, but I'll check in the morning to see if it has those screws!

What would be in a repair kit? Yes please if you don't mind!! I can easily paypal some money over for it.

So do you think not having these screws in could be what is causing the problems?

In the bag of bits I have, I found 4 screws, 2 long ones and 2 a bit shorter ones.. But as I said earlier, when I tried putting these down the screw holes that you use, they just fell down.

When's best to ring? I'm at work 7-4ish but can easily slack off work to ring during the day if you're in.

    God, I hate cars... [:D]

Mate, I was thinking of the idle mixture turret and a set of screws if you don't find any.
Call my moby anytime tomorrow; and I've written down your e-mail addy, so you can edit that out to reduce spamabilities if you want.

what sort of a carb makes you strip it down and take the air cleaner off to adjust the idle mixture ??

i've never seen that, all the 2e3 i've owned (1.6 cavalier, 1.3 astra, 1.3 mk2 polo) its been on the side of the carb near the throttle quadrant.

screws inside the carb are usually fixings or actual jets

There's a rubber plug in the top of the airbox allowing access. ;)

And even so, it takes about 30 seconds to take the airbox off anyway!

About to go and try the car out :)
