.... and this is not a myth, 'cos it happened to me yesterday.

There's a bug in the latest version of ZA and when you download the latest Windows update (you all do, don't you?), your network and internet connection disappear!

Freaked me out - I thought it was something I'd done wrong. And of course, when your connection is gone, you can't go looking for a solution!

Check Point have issued a fix today, which seems to be working ......

i haven't downloaded a windows update in years. completely pointless imo. Don't even run an anti-virus anymore. just be a bit careful of what you are doing and all is well

 maybe. it could also be due to the fact my copy of windows doesn't let me download updates ......but......i still haven't had any problems because of this. I use ZA and i'm pretty sure i know what is connecting and i know what i'm downloading. AVG 8 is utter sh*te so that had to go and i've not replaced it......

thinking its all a con :o

when it upgraded to 8, straight away started giving loads of false positives. quarantining things like word documents, pdfs, exes....all valid clean files. happened to my dads pc and in work too. googled it at the time and they said they were working on a fix. Removed it and decided i didnt really need one anyway [:D]

ZA is utterly ****e, causes all sorts of problems even when disabled. If you have a router then you don't need a software firewall, the router will be doing a much better job...
if you're directly connected to the internet however (USB modem, something like that) it'd take around 20 minutes for the PC to become infected without any intervention so in that case, a software firewall is probably a good idea ;)
anti virus is a tricky one, if you've got half a brain you can probably do without but you could get caught out...
    I don't use anti-virus but then nor do I use windows so I'm a little safer ;)

Nothing wrong with ZA, far better than most alternatives and its not instrusive like some other well know firewalls. The update bug caught me out as well, but one problem in several years of use is a pretty good average.

I downloaded Avira on a reccomendation from a previous thread - far prefer it to AVG now.
