this temp sender appears in the photo to have a strange circular terminal- how do you connect a wire to it?

    Like this?

^ Above pic is a gauge sender off a Vauxhall Omega, but the crimp attachment method is the same, I expect.

Both pictures above are filter housing sensors, not sump ones.
A sump one is thinner and has a normal spade connection but sideways.

It's just like this. A normal spade connector but it slides on sideways.

Just wondered that oil temp sender , how far does it go into the housing so its in the oil flow ? as would the heat from the housing not give you maybe the wrong reading ?

if one uses a different temp sender than the original audi's will it give a false reading?

it depends on the rating of the sensor, if you can find one the same as the audi one then it should work, but there are non in the vag parts catalogue that I know of which are correct for an audi vdo gauge

as for the twin pole 0-5/1.8bar sender, according to e**a many many vag models are using it, including the scrappiest 8v mk2, but i'm hearing that it's hard to find one, or am i missing something:)

Bit off topic, but just like to say this thread was very helpful today when I fitted my vdo's.

So thanks to all the people who had input on this thread should be a sticky:thumbup:

I was thinking of making a VDO sticky when I install mine soon. Or just take the info from this thread.

what oil pressure sender is needed, the 1.8 bar or the 0.3 bar?
or both are good, and it's just depends where you install it?

As you say, Both are fine.

I mostly see the lower pressure one about though.
