Stocked up with SVO today 100litres 96.00 Diesel's gone up to 1.40 per litre arround here. I've also got 100 Gallon of WVO to pick up tomorrow FOC Gunna have to fire up the refinery again but think i'll modify the set up and fit a heater tank fited with at Immersion heater
been looking for a new source for ages and this ones free, see how long it last but gunna make the most of it while i can

Makro 19.36 per 20 litres Costco is the same price too The new source is the Brother in Laws local pub and he spends a fortune there.
The budget alternative fuel of choice down here seems to be Heating oil with a dash of petrol. Obviously illegal (I guess) and I'm not suggesting anyone use it but from what I hear diesels seem to run fine on it with no mods what so ever. As I recall heating oil is simply paraffin, we used to use it on the farm when I was a kid in the old grey furguson T20's. They started up on petrol and then you switched them to TVO (which I was told was paraffin - might be wrong on this) which makes you think it would be easier to ignite than diesel as the furgies were petrol engines, that said they would run on any sort of s**t, probably diesel if you put it in . If that's the case then you can use paraffin on farms but I assume not on the road unless the duty is paid (like red diesel). That said there is no duty on Vegetable oil is there so how does that work? Don't know if any of this is has any relevance but hey it might throw up some ideas.
Isn't paraffin a lighter fraction of oil that petrol? I don't think it's the same as heating oil. Always willing to learn something new though!
Yes it all works but totally illegal to use on the road in this country. Only Petrol , Diesel, LPG & Veg Oil allowed by VOSA

35 second heating oil is the same fraction as red diesel.... Again this is illegal but will work. I ran a twin tank Ibiza TDi for a couple of years and the car was great. Couple of things to bear in mind... Di engines can lose upper cylinder temps very quickly. This would result in me making clouds of smoke when I was help in traffic jams. If you are stationary it is recommended you switch back to derv. The fats in the oil can polymerise and attack your piston rings and make a pretty gungy mess! Chnage your oil more frequently...Some use special oils but the jury is still out. If you use WVO ensure it is really good quality. Oils with too much FFA (usually from over use) are pretty harmful. Fancy restaurant and tempura is much better than the chippy! Dont use the glowplug heaters....Do the maths how much current is needed to heat your injectors, combustion chambers and IP.... If you want to use WVO with no mechanical fiddling...buy and IDI N/A VW or get a car with an in-line IP...like an old merc. Thanks for the above points, I'll certainly take them into account. I did actually buy a Merc W124 300D last year with the express purpose of running WVO, but found serious structural rust that I was unwilling to tackle so punted it in to an Merc enthusiast. My twin-tank setup will use the Eckes-type heat exchanger, which is based on a VW oil cooler adapter to fit a screw-on fuel filter. The spare wheel recess in my Polo Varient is big enough for a 30L tank with insulation, a wee facet pump to help the IP and a prefilter.
Isn't heating oil kerosene? Which is my question. I know of lots of people who have run older diesels on kerosene. What are its properties and could it be run in a modern PD? The people I know of in older vehicles add a little engine oil to "lower combustion temperature and for lubrication" supposedly! Local oil suppliers will sell kero at 75/litre
Will it be obvious to them that it's kero? What do they do for a random test on a road car? Is it a qick dip? If it gets a quick dip and doesn't come out red will they go any further testing it?
Something like that. So approximately 20-25k miles if you're running 100% veg. I think it's the same for 'personal' biodiesel production.
