god yeah i know. i have a carling box full of random off cuts, another box full of off cuts and plug ends, plus another large box stuffed to the brim. then i have 1 tin full of wire, and another tin full of chopped off plugs. i have another box full of 'good' looms which are uncut for spares. i have added a binbag with complete lighting and abs loom from a mk3 into the collection, plus I now have an abf loom for conversion waiting for me to look at, and a mk4 1.8t loom for conversion sat downstairs in the post room waiting for me.

I just cant throw this stuff away, what if i need to rewire a car in an emergency?

whats wrong with that Dan, ill get it to read what i want then ill be happy, seriously tho, ill order a blue one in the morning.

  3. | would also try a capillary one just to check - not for permanent fitment mind. My neighbour has one on his MGB, and it's burst twice so far - makes a bit of a mess of the floor and your shoes when it blows a pipe inside...

Yes, but your neighbour is Irish and stupid. If he used an electric gauge he probably would have set fire to his car instead.

Especially when bodged into 1970s MGB wiring. I've worked on the wiring on a mate's B and it's horrible.

These things are pretty handy as an independent way of seeing how hot bits of car are getting.
Obviously, a bit tricky to do on the move...

  7. You can't set fire to a Lucas-wired car - they torch themselves if you even flick a switch. Lucas, the Prince of Darkness, indeed..

  8. I suppose he could leave it idlind in the driveway till it gets "hot", then point the pyrometer at the sump? Handy things to have around, andyway - I'm going to buy one just to measure random temperatures. Great for balancing your central heating system properly, as well!

Just got the blue sender from TPS, ill have to see what difference it make to the temps!!

oh and got 10% off with CGTI card, i love that tenner i spend each year! must have saved me over 50 quid this year!

  11. If it helps, I've connected my water temp gauge to the oil temp sender (using the water temp sender for the ecu pro tem) and I've seen the oil temp creep up in traffic too. Maybe the lack of air rushing past the sump combined with the general rise in coolant temp?

well, fitted the blue sender and the oil warms up a lot slower then previoulsy indicated, and doesnt get anywhere near the previously indicated temps , some more testing is rerquired before im convinced but looks good so far.

RJ was right again. no surprise there then.

Bow down at the knees of the RJ young drunkenalan.

I was going to suggest drilling a hole in the gauge and sticking a pin in it to stop the gauge reading to high if this last effort had not worked. ;)
