Making a baffled sump.

    Anyone made a sump yet from the templates i sent out?

    I still have a few photocopies, if anyone else wants one drop me a PM.

    still havent got around to it, big thanks for sending them out though. It will have to be done before next trackday as I had some oil starvation last trackday which turned my engine into what sounded like a tractor, amazingly it cured its self and did another 70miles of track time[8D]

    nope I too sadly have spent my money and time getting the car back on the road....it will be done soon-ish...

    Apologies, I know this is an old thread but do you happen to have the templates still?

    Getting some oil starvation due to sump surge but don't want to risk cracking an alloy sump :(

    Sambo does one for 1.8t engines and I think JMR make some :thumbup:

    After a bit of CAD (Cardboard aided design).......

    ....and a few tweeks here and there to clear windage tray and oil pump, here is my effort (complete with anti surge flap, gate, door things) that cost me roughly 20 all in to produce (including windage tray)

    Surely the theory is the same.....cut out some baffles, get them welded in.....material is irrelevant is it not?

    Or do as some do and weld the baffles to a windage tray and have them suspended.

    I posted my photo to give anyone seeking advice making their own an idea of what a DIY job might look like....be it steel or alloy.

    exactly the same bud
    plus not everyone has the kit to weld alloy
    i prefer a steel sump they don't crack for one

    Very true, most folks don't have the gear to weld full stop.

    I suppose you could take your nicely cut bits of alloy to someone to TiG or MiG in for you?

    I bought a spare engine a few weeks back and the alloy sump on that had clearly hit a kerb or something causing a proper dent in it.....not a crack in sight amazingly. Should post a photo on here for folks to laugh at.

    I'm looking at baffling a pan and wondered how the modifications Cupra Rally did worked out? I like the idea, and the implementation seems to be ideal for a steel pan.
    Of course almost all of the the threads concerning baffled pans have lost their pictures...

    We still make the original concept version of the copies shown here for the popular steel sump. They work more than fine in race applications to this day, like they have done for 10 years or so.
    If you base something on the same principle you won't go wrong.

    We don't weld them these days, that's an old customer unit as requested.
