GVK, get rid of that 020, fit an AGC 02A box with a 3.94 final drive and a VR6 clutch.

    AGC - 3.77 2.11 1.34 0.97 0.79 FD 3.94

Very similar to mine, but mines slightly lower ratio that that!

    CDA - 3.77 1.94 1.42 1.02 0.83 FD 3.68

So basically the same as my ratios, but a different final drive.

    Mine'll accelerate faster ;)

I'd love to, but I f**kin' hate how notchy those cable change boxes are - you can't rush them. :(

    Bill - I stand corrected:p

Can you tell me where my s/h Gearbox code is? as all i can find is a stamp on the bottom which reads:FM24045X which is fitted to my MK1 8v & has very short ratio's different to the standard box.

Your gearbox code is the first 2 letters so would be FM.

OK Cheers :p , but now can anybody tell me the ratio's or what vehicle this would have come from as i replaced it s/h when my first box died a while ago & everybody who has driven my car says the first ratio's are shorter than the gti model, not that im complaining as it fly's up through the gears but i have to change into 3rd to hit 60 so i'll loose out there & im thinking of going custom next year but i'd like to know my starting point first to compare.

You sure it's not FN not FM?

    FN 3.894 3.455 1.944 1.286 0.909 0.711

    With it's 3.894 Diff , it's a 'short ratio' box

Use the gear calculator on page 1 of this thread to get the speeds in each gear - enter your tyre size and shift rpm... with the ratios i've just posted above.

Thanxs G_V_K that sounds right, need to put my thinking head on later to work out the maths.

Is this gearbox suited to a high torque engine?

You could try running her on 45 profile tyres like i`m running gary, that`ll bring the ratios down a bit.

Doesn't that throw out your speedo readings?

Im running 195/50/15 on mine & i was told on friday that on the rolling road my speedo was reading 5-8 mph high?
