Am i right in thinking that the diagnostic port has its own loom which connects to the fusebox side of the engine.

Ive seen the diagnostic wires on my loom which r.j labelled up for me.

The reason i ask it that the guy who i bought my loom from breaks Audi A3's for a living, mostly AGU's.

He's not sure how long the loom is, and if it has its own loom ect...

    Can anyone help.

    Cheers

How far are you going with the conversion Richard? Depends if you are using MK4 clocks I suppose as to how much loom you will need.
You can use any port, not just from an AGU. The white plug has most of the wires but it will be running can-bus (2 orange twisted wires) and they look like a nightmare from my interior loom. Looks like they are wired through the clocks so if you don't run the MK4 clocks I would not bother with it.
Just the one wire (grey/white I think) that no doubt RJ will have labeled in his loom to use to the port.

    Cheers Mat

I was planning on using the current Mk2 clocks tbh [8(]

I wonder if there is any way around keeping the diagnostics without using the Mk4 clocks.

    There is, Don't panic[:D]

In RJ's loom you should have a single grey/white wire, It might have a brown plug on it.
This is the K-line for the diagnostics and goes to pin 7 on the diag port looking at the above diagram.
Then all you need is a live and negative and it will work.
Mine is a 4motion engine and i have MK3 clocks. I Still get engine diagnostics from it and is helping me fault find at the moment:)

Edit, It just wont be can-bus stuff but you dont need that if running MK2 clocks really.

    Oh, I forgot the disclaimer.

*mat-mk3 is not responsible for the car blowing up or the garage imploding on itself*

I had these thoughts yesterday when i first turned the key on mine[:$]
I did the loom myself but im sure if RJ had done it then it would have started first thing too:thumbup:

yeah you have 3 diagnostics wires grey/white which is for zee ecu, and the can-bus which as above i sdont think need wiring up on AGU. i put them back there for you anyway just in case.

if it was me i would get a post-96 mk3 vag-com port with all the loom and diagnostics jumper block above the ecu. cut a length of wire off the donor mk3 from one of the other grey/white jumper block wires and splice this to your grey/white wire that i left on the mk4 loom. dont cut the vag-com port grey or yellow wires though! just the red/white and brown with as much length as you can.

then splice the red/white and brown power wires to the ciggy lighter, plug port and mk4 loom diagnostics wires to the jumper block and bobs ya uncle. this is what it looks like:

sorry I've been off for a couple days, the grey/white is your diagnostics K-line for the port pin 7. the orange twisted pair are the can-bus wires, you dont need to wire them for diagnostics though I always run them to the fusebox 'just in case'
