I bought them from VW and I do believe they are M7 x 45mm long but thought I would buy original which incidently were of the same poor quality but I was a bit more careful putting these ones on for sure. I put it down to a dodgy torque wrench as to why it happened but human error was the more likely cause. Edited by: Dave VR6
Yeah, I think I might've had the wrench on a bit higher than it should've been as well . I'll pull them all out if I ever rebuild the head. Joe
You can leave the cam studs in and the stem oil seals will come out when the guides are knocked out. Leave the guides in for now and the cam caps can stay on as well, it keeps them in the correct order and stops the studs from getting accidentally damaged. Just needs the cams and valves out.
Too late Daz, it's stripped One thing I did notice when taking the inlet valves out, one of them was f'kin tight in the guide Thanks Louis, i'll keep you in mind Joe, I thought the studs would have to come out for refacing the head hmmmmm http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1141959 Edited by: G_V_K
No! That's not the type of skim you want - that's the unusual "sideways skim" that Dave VR6 does for his "special" customers.........
I've got 3 torque wrenches, none of them will do 15nm Got a Britool 3/8" that goes up to 11nm and a Snap-On 3/8" that starts at 20nm
"I'm afraid we seem to have broken into an oilway, Mr. Smith. But as you know, these things can happen."
Best small torque wrench I had was one from the dealers, it went from 5nm to 25nm and was used for bolting in the rear quarter glass on the A100s. It was in my box when it was stolen and Ive never bothered to replace it.
