its the head side of things that will determine what bits you can and cant use. If you use a 16v head you will be able to use 16v stuff, if 20v then 20v stuff

but the 16v stuff isn't far off the 20v, some adaptor plates may save you a packet but would need some pondering

Not all ARD's are big port heads, as i found out last week after a 4 hour drive to pick one up [:x]

Chris have you any other info on this ALT block, like what size crank and rods are used, bore size etc.

not a huge weight saving 15kgs allegedly, but i guess that is quite a high percentage in a stripped out mk1

pretty sure tim [rallye] said the ALT was on his version of etka, so bore/stroke etc should be easy to find out

Yeah its not going to be a big saving, the cast block is only about 30 ish kgs, but its worth a look into before we start on the cast block again.

    mmmm,good stuff.
is there any electrical issues running either an adr or alt 20v in a mk1?
    immobilisers etc?
do i just need mbe? to run the ignition, like this?
not too bothered about sensors as ill be using new dials.

if you don't use the vw ecu then don't worry about immobiliser issues
