with any NA tuning it will have to be revved to make that kind of power. what sort of revs do the 20vs start to suffer problems?
I'm not saying its not doable, only that it aint as easy as is sometimes made out (and you are the master of understatement) - anything needing VWM parts for eg starts getting VERY expensive even if you can get hold of the bits. Apologies if you thought I was having a dig - not intended. Cheers Rob
no offence taken, i guess it's like IanB and his valver -200bhp is easy, then GVK and Tubs report it's not quite that easy 20v head will need custom pistons, or machined up ABF ones, so if going custom some 83.5 ones may work out a similar price, and you can choose your compression. if you aren't limited on capacity for any specific regs. a wider bore is always good news to help with valve shrouding issues cam choice for 20v NAs seems a little limited so far, will need to see if newman can do any regrinds ferrari 5v heads use longer duration and more lift on the 5th valve, wonder if there is any advantage in mixing cam profiles in that way for us lowly vw boys.
I have enough on my plate as it is at the moment, and unfortunately the 20v N/A is at the bottom of the pile The daily driver has to be finished off - that grey Jetta is in the middle of an engine transplant The VR has to be done also, and I have a Corrado that keeps me going with ongoing niggles Having said that, bolting on the carbs and firing it up is relatively easy, but I have an exhaust manifold to make - damn syncro system is in the way for anything off the shelf
Its nothing fancy, just a boggo rod box syncro, was originally a carbed 1.8 - be a bit of a laugh to see how long the crappy rear diff (or box for that matter) lasts with a big power hike over what it had
CatCams CatCams They list some interesting spec'd cams for 16v and 20v motors.. in cast (like Schrick) and Billet.. Yummy Cast ones are favourably priced compared to Schrick.. Used by european race teams. Edited by: badger-bill

Hes done a few peugeot engines and the results always seem to be excellent, done a head for a TT recently that made ~200bhp @ only 7 psi afaik. UK dealer for Cat Cams is http://qep.uk.com I have one in mine, Matt there may be able to advise if you need it
thought 20v were meant to be bullet proof. What the difference in the n/a head vs the 1.8t heads? Those things seem to take dogs abuse.
Blimey old thread resurected, anyway the year is out now Mr P, shall I pop round to hear it fire up then
