I now have the manifold, turbo, intercooler and all associated pipe work. I need to start a list around what else I need to get to make this happen. I have started it below, please add to it and correct so I have a complete list.

    • head gaskets/bolts
    • bigger injectors original G60 items suitable?
    • camshaft - back to standard PB or G60 or other (currently newman 272)
    • FPR?
    • sump oil feed
    • water feeds

A sump with oil drain is needed. The mk2 Golf turbo diesel ones have a fitting welded onto the side for this, or you could get a std petrol sump modified.
And an oil feed from the oil filter housing to turbo is required too. Easy enough to get made up once you know the fitting required for the turbo.

I have a spare standard sump so will probably look to get that modified as per tshirt2k thread. any thoughts on what I have listed wrong/right?

    Water feed lines and fittings.
    Junior timer plugs for injectors.
Heatshrink, solder. Insulation tape for wiring.
Various gaskets for TB, inlet, exhaust manifold. Unless you reuse old ones.

Optional oil cooler. New piston rings ( if you need a refresh)

will need to check what water lines I have in the turbo goody box if any. Could you please explain why I need the plugs for the injectors? I have seen a complete g60 fuel rail with injectors would this be suitable? Engine only had 50k on it when I bought it so I will leave it as it is for now. Is the oil cooler recommended or is it something I can do without for initial fast road/commuting use.

I put optional as you may want to reduce oil temps at some stage.

Regarding plugs. How will you connect loom to injectors? Are G60 injectors on the fuel rail like a complete unit like an ABF ? If not, doubt they will come with a loom, unless it's separate from the engine loom.

Might be worth going to standard pb cam then you can sell the 272.

Are you doing a build thread. ? Haven't seen any for an 8v turbo.

I think it may be about time I do a build thread as I didnt do on efor the VR either and it should help someone in the future. I get what you mean with the fuel rail, I just assumed it would come with the injector connectors as those wires stay intact when you remove the rail as a complete unit. Will those injecters be enough though?

thanks for that I will havea read through that now and be armed with many more (trivial for some) questions

Depends on the output you're expecting. Find out what flow they are. G60 can get upto around 210hp IIRC so they should be ok. I'm sure someone will know.

    Oi!!
Get the ecu running on what you have first, enjoy, re-evaluate and target what you want the new engine to deliver.
You do not have to go turbo/ forced induction either. There is also the "get more revs out of the 8v", with increased torque from an compression increase and change FD for shorter overall gearing.
Then you will have an engine closer to Mr Mike_H with 16v rev range and 8v talks.
Think about these suggestion after the engine is on the SEM and you experience it's real capability.
The other bits to fit are really minor niggles.

If turbo "kit" has already been purchased. It would mean doing it all twice. Looks like the chosen route has been decided as hardware is already there and mentioned in the other thread.

Still have to get the engine running on the SEM and then who knows, depending on the response, the turbo kit might be sale :p.

True and possible, But I know i wouldn't trade forced induction for suction. [:D]

Suction outputing to a bit of gear multiplication can give a hellofalot of acceleration with the right calibration .

Don't underestimate a proper 8v suction engine, many 16v and turbo car have made that mistake this year

I've got a set of 8v pistons here that have been machined down for turbo use, nearly new, I just purchased them for the steel rods they were attached to:thumbup: Have a G60 cam from the same enine if it's of any use, only want beer money for them as they are no use for me. If they are any use PM me.

The only reason I thought of getting the turbo on there whilst doing the SEM was to keep the mapping work to a minimum but if you suggest going SEM first then I dont mind going down that route as a first step. Would actually be nice to see what improvements are made from the Digi. Also how long for the ECU Eddie? Not rushing you just excited [:D]

I have noticed there is some side to side play in the compressor wheel but it has not touched the housing. Am I better off sorting this before eventual install and is it feasable doing a DIY rebuild?

EDIT: found a handy link http://vagdrivers.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=23532

Some side to side is ok. I did a DIY rebuild on my turbo but it was 50 wasted as it needed oversize piston ring seals. May be wise to get it checked by a specialist. Otherwise just use it and see how it goes.

might get it checked out as its not going straight on. It all looks quite tight and I read somewhere that if it does eventually touch the housing then the turbo is beyond rebuild not sure if thats true.
