Removed my front 3yr old FK coil overs to fit new KONI inserts.

Shocked to see just how badly corroded they are, anyone would think they were 15 yrs old!

I think Mr.GasAxe will be helping with the removal of the threaded collar that secures the insert,
    and the upper spring platform....

<GVK, wishing he'd just bought another set of coil overs..>

    The day they were fitted.

Mmmmnnn I have been thinking about FK's and wondering if I should get the stainless ones. Wondered if they would be worth the extra 50. Question answered.
Wouldn't expect that though. Even on our salty roads. [:s]

I live about 3 miles from 'the wash' the little cut out bit in the North Sea  Blame that. Car lives outside/driven in all weathers. But yeh, I wouldn't expect them to be THAT FecKing rusty either.

I even used the FK supplied anti-corrosion spray once they were fitted, for what it was worth.

Eeeeek, rushes outside to check his [:s]

That is pretty poor, i take it your lower platforms still move? The stickers are more hardcore than the factory coating

How much are the inserts to buy? Got loads of life left in mine but its always worth knowing

Oooh... I thought that these were supposed to be the best in terms of anti-corrosion...?

Rob, the lower platforms, I've moved, but bent the C spanners in the process, I gave the upper ones some gentle persuasion, but they won't budge, I'll strip out the inserts so they won't explode and heat the feckers up at work.

KONI T/A Inserts are 90 each from GwentVW, they only took a month to arrive [xx(]

Its jus the fact the threads on them will scrape the coating, and once it goes in a wee bit, it'll just spread like mad. Couple it with heat, wet, dirt etc, they'll just rust like feck.

Stainless ones i bet wont be great either after 3 years, stainless still corrodes, even A4 stainless

I would also say a big hammer might come in handy at some point. It is worrying that my suspension may already be restricted to one ride height now. [8(]

How about grinding off the rust and painting with hammerite

They wont seize, if you regularily wind the adjusters up and down to keep them mobile.

A good lashign with wd40 or whatever evey so often doesnt hurt either

    KW stand from inters:

a test by some german uni, they all spent 480hrs in a salt spray bath to speed up the corrosion process

when AVO stop fixing my coilovers for free i'll be buying some KW's, stainless steel and composite platforms so they shouldn't seize
