went ahead and made the plenum flange. This one is for a sheetmetal plenum. I havent 100% decided on carbon fiber for the plenum yet, but If i do Ill make another flange to suit it.

its hard to see but the inner wall has a radius to it

Got the motor stripped down to the bare head-block-pan

A couple things I think I'm going to do.

Electric water pump rear mounted with radiator

Alternator mounted at rear of block just above where stock motor mount is. Hopefully smaller race alternator that turns off at high rpm. Under axle if at all possible

Oil filter relocated. Not sure where yet but I need room for the throttle body.

Valve cover shaved of everything it doesn't need. Large AN fitting welded to it for crank case vent

Crank case vents on front of block routed to titanium air oil separator behind strut tower

Motor pushed back around 3 inches from stock location.

Possibly turning down intermediate shaft to cut out some weight

    Manual timing belt tensioner

    Adjustable cam gear

On another note I've been thinking about this car and torque steer

At under 2000lb - 907 kg and around 400 wheel hp and 275/35-15 Hoosier a6 slicks, I'm thinking torque steer may be an issue. Ill work out all the scrub radius I can in the suspension design, but you can only do so much.

I am thinking of running two short axles and an intermediate shaft like a lot of new high hp fwd cars.

So to you high hp mkII owners, is torque steer an issue?

There's an OEM "equal length" driveshafts (axles) solution from, I believe, early Passats.

Its from the B3 or B4, IIRC, (not sure you have those Stateside...). The "intermediate" shaft bracketry bolts direct to the block, and it (should) utilise 100mm flanges.

No progress lately. Looking for a 2 door shell, working 80 hours a week and building my garage at the same time.

So as usual my plans have changed, kind of.

I still want to build a 2 door chassis with my 1.8t, BUT I want to run a passat trans in the REAR.
I'd build a torque tube setup similar to a corvette or 944 Porsche.

Dual upper and lower wishbone suspension both front and rear, with hydraulic ride height adjustment. One off spindles, aero, chop top, etc.

Here is the design idea for the plenum. Note this isn't to scale, just a quick sketch to convey my design idea.

The goal is smooth non turbulent flow and more equal distribution than your regular side feed manifold.

    Opinions?
