Strange, doesn't mention anything about a current MOT. Who on earth is going to pay 4.5k for a mk1 scirocco with no MOT?
That number plate would have to go, round my way there is a local scrapyard called RPB! I bet they would pay loads to put that plate on their recovery truck...
I like mk1 Sciroccos but for a 1600 auto I'd want to pay no more than 1000 at an absolute maximum. Any car of that age, regardless of mileage, is going to have hidden problems from parts that are worn out, rubber that's perished, hidden rust, etc. The market for people who really want mk1 Scirocco 1600 autos must be pretty small. If you wanted to put a different engine in it then why not just buy a reasonably good one for 500 and pull the engine out? 4k buys a hell of a lot of parts and body repairs. The plate would definitely sell for a few thousand if you were willing to wait 6 months for the right buyer to come along. Other than that I can't see the novelty value of a low-mileage Scirocco being worth 4.5k.
yep, the market doesn't value them that highly. My GTII is mint, 57,000 miles, to be honest looks better, and cost under a grand. Like the guy said there'll be all sorts of things going wrong here ane there and it'll cost more money to put it right. If the mk 1 was rarer you could understand the high price, maybe.
if the mk1 was rarer? how many mk1 sciroccos do you see each month? most of them have rotten sills. When i sold mine with a dead engine and generally looking VERY tatty up close, the guy practically bit my arm off to get it before anyone else did! I'm not sure its worth 4500 but its worth quite a bit because they are genuinely rare, not just ebay rare. I'd say I've seen more rallyes on the road than mk1 sciroccos.
I've loved Mk1 Sciroccos since I was a kid. My big sisters boyfreind was in the RAF, stationed in Germany and he had a lovely custard yellow LHD Mk1 GLS with square headlights and I would dream of the day I could own my own one, I loved that car. The one on ebay is a bit pricey but I'd have it in a second if I could afford it.
That's coz everyone who has a MK1 generally has another one as well. Noticed that every set of Elsecar pics had one of that red MK1 Scirocco.
