Mine runs like poo at 6 degrees, as Pigbladder said just turn the dizzy until it runs OK, mine is set at something like 8 or 9 degrees btdc & I've heard people people say that 10+ degrees is OK.

Ok well my engine is running pretty high compression. It's a 1.9 bottom end with a P&P'd C&R head, P&P'd inlet and exhaust manifolds and V-Sam Pro fuel management along with the 286 cam. I'm really worried about killing it if it's not set up properly as I can't afford to replace the engine if it goes into meltdown.

tuning it by ear isnt any worse than guessing the timing marks

Fair enough, I've managed to get a mate to come over tomorrow and give me a hand with it. I'll post up tomorrow and let you know how I get on. Gotta change my front pads as well.

Cheers again for all your help.

in fact it can be good good a e'nuff to pass a mot

probably find the the mixture is out too if the timing is that far out
the best way to think of it the ideal setting is the peek of a hill
one side is to rich the other to lean turn it till gets better keep going till it just starts to get worse then back it up abit

the timing will be the same

Well we set it up by ear in the end and took it for several runs and made some tweaks. Got it pinking then backed it off till it didn't pink at all. Seems to be running well.

Will keep an eye on temps in the morning session tomorrow and fine tune it through the day I think.

Cheers for all your help lads.

Car was HAMAZING yesterday, had a bit of pinking but a fine tune and all was good. Passed a few elises and porkers and I'm still grinning.
