have a read of the digi tuning guide. setting the idle is easy but the co requires a proper co meter. only set this after the timing is correct though, but you can fiddle with the idle if it wont idle properly if you want. just needs resetting properly once its setup.

ignition timing wise just set it so that when the cam and crank are both lined up to TDC the rotor arm is pointing at the notch in the dizzy housing, then set the lead order 1 3 4 2 with #1 where the rotor is pointing.

the engine will then fire up and run perfectly fine at this basic setting even without setting the ign timing properly, it just wont have any power. if it still cuts out or runs rough the problem is elsewhere

There's a little pointer inside the bellhousing - you have to take both parts of the plastic plug out to see it.

Are you sure you haven't got an air leak somewhere? Have you had the inlet manifold off?

    Not a fuel pump perhaps?

I have reset all the timing as rubjonny says & it's still the same, if you increase the revs slowly it sounds like it's hitting the rev limiter then starts to backfire through the carb,
    any more ideas anyone

Carb?? I thought it was an injection engine?!

Have you checked that the fuel pumps are both running, if it is in fact an injection engine?

What do the spark plugs look like, if you pull them out.

If you check for a spark is it pale and yellow, or bright blue-white?
