Going through some old VW Audi Car mags, stumbled on this article:
    SCAN0128_zpsc5cb799f.jpg SCAN0129_zps2cf1aaf5.jpg SCAN0130_zps34c67c65.jpg

    Nice page on Rennsport

Some info on the prototypes from grabbed from VWVortex (posted by Halpem):
Lets not forget the CGTI thread on just the engine

Have to wonder what could have been achieved with this weapon?
Any other info out there on the A59?

    Coolest MK3 ever!

Wonder where the second one ended up then.

Yep, I agree. It's one of those cars which isn't exactly nice to look at, but would of been something special if it was ever produced.

275hp, and the potential of 400+ hp from that engine would have been epic!! Something sought after by many too ;)

Definitely, there was a market for ugly, four wheel drive cars with a bit of poke in the 90's wasn't there... lol

Personally, I think its stunning looking!

Whats surprises me though, is that no body kit company appears to ever have made even an approximation of the design. If such a kit existed, it'd be the only one I'd ever consider fitting...in fact I wouldn't consider it, I'd be right in there cash in hand!

Haha yeah don't get me wrong, I like it, and the Pulsar for that matter, but it's not a conventionally 'pretty' car. It's like an A-10 Warthog or something, it looks good because you know it's mean, purposeful and you'd love to have a go [:D]

I'd be tempted by another Mk3 if even a vaguely-accurate copy of the kit was available too. Drop me a message on the ole book o' faces if you ever come across one mate

Can definitely see where the idea for the R32 mk4 came from...

Pretty sure the engine used a variable geometry intake also. I originally wanted to make mine like it, but real estate is very tight there and Id ideally want a mk2 to mock it into so I went the current route instead,

Nice as it was, it's nowhere near wide enough (for my tastes, that is) Arches, yes, but you'd be hard pressed to see the extra width in the quarter-panels/wings.

When you compare the sills on the A59 to the ABT kit, there's about a two-inch difference.

If I come across one, I'm telling you nothing...! If I come across two, however, I'll be sure to let you know. :p ;) lol

That's the famed "3rd" A59, where in reality its on original unused kit that found its way to the US, and was grafted onto an, otherwise, standard VR. And that picture has never done it any justice (just looks like any cheap-kitted Mk3)

    This is a far better angle;

Apparently it got smashed up at some point, but I don't know if it was ever repaired.

    Mr. G...

That box looks incredibly similar to the 02M 6-speeders... Very very similar.

Have always loved the A59 did a lot of research trying to find a similar kit - looking at this car I'm glad I never did :-)

The trouble is, having spent serious wedge on a super-rare carbon/Kevlar body kit, they went and raided the FK catalogue for the rest of the parts... [:s] Cheapens it massively...It could have looked so much better.

Remember the yellow wide-body 1552 did? That level of finish with this kit would have been awesome...
